As part of the National Year of Reading PGS is running the Family Reading Tree Challenge to promote and reward reading together. This is a chance for pupils and their families to share and benefit from the amazing reading culture here at PGS.
Studies show that shared reading for pleasure increases academic performance, improves relationships, and supports healthier mental wellbeing. Find out more about the benefits of family reading on the Research & Rewards tab.
Every pupil will begin the year as the trunk of their own tree. In order for the tree to flourish, tasks must be completed by both pupil and family, collecting leaves, blossoms, fruits, and a range of surprises.
Different tasks will be revealed throughout the year, giving different family members, genres, and skills a chance to shine.
There will be prizes awarded at the end of each term for specific challenges. Those families with the most flourishing reading trees will be invited to a celebration event at the end of the year to receive their awards.
Visit 'The Challenges' page to see what tasks have already been set.
It is up to you who counts as your family, from parents and siblings to neighbours and colleagues, whoever enriches your reading life, we want you to share this challenge with them.
